Day 7
Miles hiked today: 10 ish?
LT miles: 58
Total miles hiked: 65
Bromely Mountain top
Had a knee busting walk down the mountain to Manchester for food. Met an AT hiker on the way down who joined us for breakfast in town. He was calling it quits. Just decided he'd rather be at home with his wife but had a great time thus far.
We sprawled out in front of the grocery store like a couple of vagrants. I went overboard on food yet again I'm sure. I'm just so HUNGRY all the time! I'm terrified of not having enough, lol.
A/C and a toilet were nice luxuries for today. I feel bad that we smell so awful walking into these places but im sure they're used to it. And thankfully neither of us wanted to linger in town. So we got a ride back to the trail and took off both feeling very refreshed.
Got a tip from several people that if we go to the top of Bromely mountain there is a warming hut for skiers that is open to hikers in the summer. No water up there though, so along with our fresh resupply of food we had to fill all our reserves and lug a ton of water up the mountain. Ugh. But we did it! And just shy of the summit we saw our first black bear! Thankfully he saw us and took off. The summit is just breath taking. Wow. And so far we're the only ones in the hut. Which has power! We're taking full advantage and charging all the things. We won't hit our next town for probably 5 days.
We were eventually joined by a group of AT SOBO hikers from Germany and a solo hiker.hikers.
Brendan seems to have gotten his groove finally. We're speculating that his body was in a bit of shock from the sudden endurance test. I'm used to this but he's not.
Settled in to watch the most amazing sunset. Then sunrise tomorrow. ❤️
