Upper Peninsula Day 4
Between the amazing cold weather and the creek next to us, we slept great, all bundled in our sleeping bags. 😊 My true happy place.
Woke early to get food in us, filter water (as that's the last we'll see all day) and get moving. Today is by far the longest and hardest hike. But we'll be back at the car and headed to a shower. Mmmmmmmm shower.
We hit the trail by 830 with MUCH lighter packs. Clear and cool and a beautiful walk. The 2 miles to the next junction was flat and we made good time.
A false sense of security. We made the turn and headed straight up. And up. And unfortunately the weather heated up a bit as we went. But once we got to the top of Mount Cuyahoga We were greeted with some absolutely breathtaking views along with cool breezes.
We walked along the ridge for four miles up and down different Peaks. We were both worn out And my body tends to shut down when it gets over 80 degrees So the last four were a bit of a slog. But We continued to have epic views.
We also were near several parking lots by this point so there are lots of day hikers. We saw more people in these last four miles than we saw in the last three days combined. As we got closer to the car we were near the road and the sight of cars definitely made us sad. Getting back into civilization is always a little hard. But still no cell service at least. A little longer peace.
The car was a welcome site though. We sat at a picnic table for a bit and ate lunch. Im sure we looked and smelled quite interesting.
Then we started the 3.5 hour drive to our Airbnb. It was a very quiet drive as we fought to stay awake.
Stopped for caffeine and snacks and perked up. With renewed energy I had a beautiful idea. We made a side quest to jump into Lake Superior. Clothes and all. And it was AMAZING.
After dropping our stuff at the Airbnb and a quick shower we went out for a post hike meal. And drinks obviously
Back to the Airbnb (super cute tiny home!) To clean out our gear/packs and repack for tomorrow's adventure! We debated a fire as they have a fireplace but we are beyond pooped. Early night for us.
Miles hiked: 6
Total miles: 19.5. (Or something. This was all guesses)
